Watch Le Tour and visit !
- Saturday June 30 2007
1 Central London
Mayor Ken has gone to town for Le Tour's first visit to London, setting up a People's Village in Hyde Park, open July 6-8, with live music, entertainment and a French market, plus 18 big screens along the 8km route of the time trial, which takes place Saturday. The park will be one of the best places to watch it, but if you want a bit more elbow room book a table at one of the Mandarin Oriental's two restaurants overlooking the route.
2 Greenwich Park
A street-side view of the tour lets you tap into the adrenaline of the race, a high vantage point allows you to see more of the field. Greenwich offers both: a car-free town centre on Sunday July 8 (for the start of the race proper) and Greenwich Park for the long view.
3 Topes, Rochester
After leaving London at 11pm, the tour winds towards the Medway towns. The riders reach Rochester on Sunday lunchtime and you can enjoy the race from the outdoor terrace at Topes restaurant, metres from the action.
4 The Star & Eagle, Goudhurst
The beer garden outside the Star and Eagle, a village pub dating back to the 14th century, makes an excellent place to watch the riders negotiate the King of the Mountain section.
5 Canterbury's city walls
There's no better place to see the finish of the stage. Get there early, as only a select few will be allowed on to the wall. If you are unlucky, opt for nearby Tannery Fields, which will have a fireworks display as night falls.
